19th Annual Key Largo Sailfish Challenge

Florida Keys fishing tournaments kick of with this challenge which is part of the acclaimed Redbone at Large series. Traditionally friendly, this serious competition, pits professionalism and skill among anglers fishing with 20-pound test line.

Up to four anglers per boat can register. Cash prizes and trophies are awarded to the first - third place teams. Entry fee.

Proceeds from auctions and raffles benefit the Coral Shores High School band program. Held in Islamorada, FL

Islamorada SailFly

Florida Keys fishing tournaments are also fun when they add in a different twist. The fly fishing all-release captains, mates or anglers of the sailfish boat team can tease, but only the registered anglers can cast, hook and play the fish. Tournament rules are IGFA format.

The invitational challenge is limited to 20 boats.

Islamorada Women's Sailfish Tournament

The Grand Champion team (boat), plus first and second runner up teams receive prizes in this event. Prizes are also awarded to captain and mate, high point angler, outstanding catch, largest tuna, dolphin (mahi mahi aka dorado), kingfish, most tagged sailfish and for plain old bad luck.

Cheeca Lodge Presidential Sailfish Tournament

Of all the Florida Keys fishing tournaments this is one of the long standing traditions. 25 years and going strong, it's the second leg of the three-tournament Florida Keys Gold Cup Sailfish Championship.

Part of the World Billfish Series, anglers use 12-pound test light tackle to battle the mighty leaping pelagic fighters.

Al Flutie Over the Hill Rip-Off Sailfish Tournament

This 24 year Florida Keys fishing tournaments event is known to many anglers as "almost too much fun for old guys to handle." Locally called the Flutie, the tournament is the donor of more than $400,000 to local and national charities. Age restriction is set at 50 or older.

Islamorada Fishing Club Sailfish Tournament

The final leg of the Florida Keys Gold Cup Series offers a $30,000 winner-take-all cash prize. A maximum of 30 boats are eligible to participate to make sure you enroll early.

Stock Island Village Marina King Mackerel Tournament

Key West FL is the site of the annual winter migration for big king mackerel aka kingfish. $10,000 is the equally large prize awarded to the winner of this exciting Florida fishing tournament.

Cuda Bowl

Bring it on to this barracuda challenge where anglers and guides will fish the shallow flats for this great fighter.

Headquartered at Hurricane Hole Marina, on Stock Island, prizes are given to top angler and guide in light tackle spin and fly divisions. Additionally, a large gift certificate to Hurricane Hole Restaurant and Bar and a trophy will be presented.

Entry fee is $250 for one angler, and $300 for two.

February 3 to February 4 in Key Largo
(Always held 1st Wednesday of Every February)
Poor Girls Sailfish Tournament

Held at Whale Harbor, kick off is Tuesday with fishing Wednesday for this large regional charity competition that typically draws more than 200 anglers. The fishing challenge offers ten trophies, including first, second, and third place teams. Prizes are also given for Grand champion and runner-up grand champion anglers, and the largest dolphin, kingfish and tuna.

Entry fee is per angler, and includes the kick-off party and awards banquet. Not For Profit, 100% charity.

24th Annual Swamp Guides Fishing Tournament

This all-release event for bonefish, redfish and snook takes place in the shallow waters of the Florida Keys and the saltwater fringes of the Everglades.

Bartender's Sailfish Open

Hosted by the Island Grill, this Florida Keys fishing tournaments known for being a lot of fun, and having it's own unique flavor. In some ways, it's sort of like the TV show 'Cheers' and the ongoing competition they had with their rival Boston bar.

This boat tournament involves actively employed bartenders. A local favorite, this hilarious, fun and competitive event offers trophy awards and bragging rights to winning bars.

The 2015 Bartenders Sailfish Open will kick off on February 8. Fishing will be on February 9 followed by the awards banquet.

Annual Charity Billfish Blast

Event takes place at the Ocean Reef Club with proceeds benefitting the developmentally disabled aided by the Twin Palms Center. Early registration fee available before February 1 for boat entry of up to 4 anglers.

Backcountry Fly Championship

Snook and redfish on fly are the focus of this Florida Keys fishing tournaments competition. Anglers compete to catch the most inches of snook and redfish. The grading is one inch = one point.

Rules mandate that only two catches of each species over the two days of fishing can be counted toward an angler's total inches. Grand champion, runner-up to grand champion, and anglers with largest snook, redfish and tarpon received prizes.

Jimmy Johnson's National Billfish Championship: Quest for the Ring

An attractive purse is the drawing card for this Florida Keys Celebrity Fishing Tournament that's hosted by Jimmy Johnson, two-time Super Bowl winning coach and former head coach at the University of Miami.

Proceeds benefit the University's Sports Hall of Fame, as well as other charitable foundations.

An entry fee is applicable for the all-release team tournament. Entrants receive gift bags and tickets for all social functions for up to six team members.

Jim Bokor's Islamorada All-Tackle Spring Bonefish Tournament

This demanding and prestigious All-Tackle championship tests the anglers true skills. The prize goes to the high-point angler who catches at least one bonefish in all four tackle divisions and one or more weight fish in at least two divisions.

This Florida Keys fishing tournaments demanding challenge is with general, fly and spin-casting divisions. Participation is restricted to a maximum of 25 invited anglers, and a maximum of two anglers plus guide per boat.

March Merkin Permit Tournament

Catching permit on a fly can be hard, but this charity has added a new angle to the fun. This flats-and-fly-only tournament is not only catch and release, anglers earn extra points for tagging their caught fish.

April 6 to November 30 in Key West
Key West Fishing Tournament

This tournament runs over the course of many months, as participants target over 40 species of fish. This Florida Keys fishing tournaments participants are broken down by divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old).

Starting with the kickoff in April, Florida Keys sport fishermen target 15 species with certificates detailing catches and cash prizes being awarded.

Redbone at Large La Siesta Sunrise/Sunset Tarpon Tournament

Faro Blanco Invitational Tarpon Tournament

This Florida Keys fishing tournaments format is extremely popular. For 28 years this fun and entertaining three day tournament has been benefiting the Ronald McDonald Summer Camp program for disabled children.

This Florida Keys fishing tournaments focus honors the memory of Nick Sheahan, a Florida Keys student. Close to $90,000 to date have been generated to provide community scholarships for Coral Shores High School graduates.

Golden Fly Invitational Tarpon Tournament

Test your casting skills against the mighty tarpon at this event. Special flies, and a tournament-furnished tippet not greater than 20-pound test add to the excitement of this popular event.

Weight and length restrictions apply for points. Eligible tarpon must measure at least 48 inches in length to earn release points. The tarpon also must weigh at least 70 pounds for weight points.

VFW Fishing Tournament

One of the Florida Keys family oriented fishing tournaments, anglers will receive cash prizes for dolphin, wahoo, snapper and grouper. Additional prizes are awarded for heaviest fish by a lady angler and heaviest fish by a juvenile angler. Heaviest Dolphin is worth $2,500.

Robert James Sales S.L.A.M. Celebrity Tournament

The Trilogy consists of three Florida Keys fishing tournaments in the annual Redbone Celebrity Tournament Series. In the first leg, anglers target tarpon, permit and bonefish to achieve the coveted "flats grand slam." Proceeds are raised to help the fight against cystic fibrosis.

Herman Lucerne Memorial Tournament

Named after the man known affectionately as “Mr. Everglades,” the event is to be headquartered at the Guy Harvey Outpost Islander Resort. Anglers are challenged with targeting fish in multiple species in the hard-to-reach yet fruitful fishing areas that Lucerne favored.

September 24 to September 27 in Marathon FL
Marathon International Bonefish Tournament

Believed to be one of the longest running Florida Keys fishing tournaments in the Keys, if not the longest.

This challenge awards more than 20 trophies and prizes including individual and team champions scoring the largest bonefish and permit. Prizes also go to the top anglers in fly and grand slam divisions (for the top spin or fly angler who releases the largest bonefish, permit and tarpon "slam"), as well as the tongue-in-cheek "wet pants" champion titles for anglers wading from shore.

Take Stock in Children Backcountry Challenge

Redfish and trout are the focus of this annual event.

Proceeds benefit both local Rotary scholarships and Take Stock in Children, a statewide scholarship program for children in seventh through 12th grades.

Robert James Sales Baybone Celebrity Tournament

The Baybone, is second in the Redbone trilogy. This exciting Florida Keys fishing tournaments prestige has attracted celebrities and other guests including angler Stu Apte.

Targeting permit and bonefish anglers battle it out to raise money for cystic fibrosis research.

The Islamorada World Championship Fall All Tackle Bonefish Tournament

This competition allows 1 captain and one angler per boat with a maximum of 25 competitors. The three-day Florida Keys fishing tournaments challenge is said to separate great bonefish anglers from the wannabes.

(Held every 3rd weekend of every October)
Casting for Cats Women's Backcountry Tournament

In this fundraiser to help control the Upper Key's feral cat population, female anglers earn points for catching bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook and redfish using bait, artificial lures or fly tackle.

Points also are awarded in the "junk fish" category: ladyfish, sharks, jacks and spotted sea trout (speckled trout). This tournament is a Not for Profit - 100% charity.

Cheeca Lodge & Spa All-American Backcountry Tournament

Sport fishermen target snook, redfish, bonefish, tarpon and permit for prizes and trophies. Proceeds benefit the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust. Barbecue on the beach and an awards banquet are part of the tournament.

Ladies Let’s Go Fishing! Annual Keys Fishing University for Women

Women learn and/or improve their fishing skills at this award-winning weekend seminar. Nearly 7,000 female graduates participated in this education program focused on offshore, bottom, inshore and fly-fishing.

April 6 to November 30 in Key West
Key West Fishing Tournament

This tournament runs over the course of many months, as participants target over 40 species of fish. This Florida Keys fishing tournaments participants are broken down by divisions for men, women, junior anglers (ages 10 to 14) and Pee Wees (under 10 years old).

Starting with the kickoff in April, Florida Keys sport fishermen target 15 species with certificates detailing catches and cash prizes being awarded.

December 3 to December 6 in Islamorada
Islamorada Sailfish Tournament

This is the first leg of the triple-crown Florida Keys Gold Cup Championship Series. Characterized by high-flying sail action, conservation and sportsmanship, the tournament has no limit on the number of anglers allowed per boat.

This is also the only one of the Florida Keys fishing tournaments in the Gold Cup series to offer a junior division for anglers aged 16 and younger.

Islamorada Junior Sailfish Tournament

Florida Keys fishing tournaments that are designed to teach teens fishing skills they can apply in competition are popular and worthwhile. In this competition, 6 anglers per boat are allowed, and proceeds help Toys for Tots of Monroe County.
